primers

#1 Post by ronboy »

This week I needed some large rifle primers so called at the local gun shop and was told they had to record them on my FAC. Upon questioning
I was told this had been the case for a year or so. I am wondering if this is a local force idea or is this now the law generally. About two years ago I purchased about five thousand primers without a problem.

Must be local. Nothing in the "law", so to speak. My area's shops don't request our FACs.

Must be local, for some time we have been required to show out FAC's for purchase of primers and caps but as I understand it the is no requirement (yet) for them to be recorded.

I tend to purchase most of my stuff from Brian Fox at Diggle (Auntie Wainwrights Emporium!!) and are not asked to provide a copy of our FAC as he knows us anyway and nothing is put on my ticket.
A local shop near me only asks to see my FAC if I purchase any powder but does not enter anything.
If a dealer says he will put primers or any handloading component on my ticket, I will simply say no thanks and walk out and go elsewhere as far as I am aware it is not a legal requirement, and is just pandering to some local plod or to safeguard themselves from god knows what!!

I was talking to my lfo on tues and part of conversation touched on this and he agreed we have to produce the ticket but nothing has to be entered on it . He recollects talk some time ago for legislation to change to require the sale to be recorded on your ticket but it never changed so it's show it only as far as he was concerned . Just a local thing for you then I'm afraid , cheers Ian

Have you asked your local firearms licensing department if it is their requirement that RFDs do this?

If so it might be worth asking them if you were to sell primers to another shooter would you be required to enter them on the purchasers FAC?

Along similar lines -

My local FEO is now advising that ALL bullet purchases are now to be entered onto the FAC; this is supposed to be in line with the latest agreements with BASC.

I'd known about this for hunting bullets in the past, now its FMJ & OTM types too...

Can any BASC type on here confirm or deny BASC's agreement or otherwise to such a procedure?
