(West) Midlands Based 100 yard range anyone?

#1 Post by TattooedGun »

I seriously need to do some load development, and it would be highly beneficial if I could get on a local range... but I don't know of any?!

Theres Stourport however they have a maximum velocity 2150 ft per second limit... of which I will more than likely be exceeding.

Does anyone know anywhere thats (fairly) local that I could do some 100 yard shooting to do some development rather than have to hoof it all the way to Bisley (Short Siberia) everytime I want to tweak my load :(

Its for my .223... basically after shooting this weekend, I'm doubtful that the load I'm using in my rifle is anywhere near the optimum... Got a few V-bulls at 300... but when moved back to 600 the group opened up and no matter what I did to compensate for the wind, I was hugging the 5 ring but never actually in it :(

It could of course be the shooter, especially as I'm not experienced with this round at this distance... but i'd like to be sure and atleast do some 100yd groups to see how the ammo/rifle is performing before I start losing my mind! haha...

Help very much appreciated in finding somewhere to shoot!!!

Hello,
This place isnt too far from you http://www.minsterleyranges.com, as is the Muzzle Loaders Association GB range at Wednglock http://www.mlagb.com/wedgnock.htm but I don't know if they allow anything apart from front stuffing-might be worth a call thou. If you are ever down my neck of the woods (Norfolk/Suffolk) then the Kynock range is great for load development as it is a 100 yard tunnel-bit of a trek thou!http://www.kynochammunition.co.uk/
Good luck.

Might be a bit of a longer treck than you want - but I would highly recommend Mike at Calton Moor. It is indoors, has a chrono, CCTV on the targets and he is a nice guy! £10 an hour.

Minsterley so far is looking the best bet... only just over an hour away! I knew there was one, I just couldn't for the life of me remember where!

Will look into the others too :) thanks for the responses! :)

Calton moor is about the same distance as Minsterley too... Could be dependant on range prices and availability between the two to be fair! I like the idea of indoor, (No WIND) to get a true test of Zero and accuracy... remove as much external influence as possible!

Just got a reply back from Mike at Calton Moor.

Open 10am til 10pm, 7 days a week, £10 per hour! Sounds perfect to be honest! I could head out one night after work and have a couple of hours (provided I can book it!) honing my loads! They even have a reloading station that can be hired too, although i'd be tempted to take my stuff with me so as not to have to pay extra, or alternatively have my rounds pre loaded at home.

Still, very good, and can't wait to go and have a butchers!

Carlton moor is a great complex it's amazing how much difference a totally sterile environment makes to your zero and group sizes!!
