Lee Enfield No4 Re-Barrel
Hi all,
My .303 Maltby made No4 needs a new barrel, the question is, who to trust it to, I want a new 5 groove match grade, so the choice seems to be between Walther or one of Armalons home grown barrels....anyone got experience other options or advise?
Cheers, John.

Re: Lee Enfield No4 Re-Barrel
Hi John.
I would go Armalons, he did one for me some years ago can't fault the barrel or his workmanship.

Re: Lee Enfield No4 Re-Barrel
I have just had my No4 rebarrelled with a Lother Walther. It shoots quite well at the moment but after a couple of hundred more rounds it should shoot better. It has a SAAMI spec chamber which means that the shoulders of fired cases do not move forward as is typical of a 'military' chamber. It also has a tight barrel being .303 bore with .310 groove. The chamber and bore were cut to my spec's being the tightest I could get done. (it also took a long time to get the barrel from Walther). The barrel is 4 groove RH twist 1:10. If you want 5 groove you may have to look elsewhere.
Fultons have Walther barrels in stock and are charging under £400 for a the barrel to be fitted including proof.

If you trust Fultons to rebarrel your rifle, go ahead. In accordance with the forum rules, "I shall refrain from commenting further" on what they did to my 1943 Maltby, or the pricing for the work.
I've heard good things about the Lothar Walther barrels.

Hi Gaz,
Sorry to bring back bad memories for you, I hear your "flash backs" and intensive therapy sessions have just finished
I am currently examining the options...and no a certain Gun Company in the South East don't feature in my plans!!!
I will keep you posted on progress mate!
P.s mines a 43 Maltby too!
Cheers, John.

Re: Lee Enfield No4 Re-Barrel
Hi Guys,
Change of plans has forced a re-think... The cost of going down the Armalon route is very expensive...though I can see it would be a first class job.
I am now considering a one for one variation (Straight pull L1 on the way) so what to do with the No4, I can't do L1 and no4 re-barrel...my wife is very understanding, but that is just taking the pi**
Any sensible ideas guys, where to sell a Maltby No4 that the "newness" has worn off?
Is the deac route an option....don't shout at me Gaz... Just an idea.
Cheers, Johh.

Re: Lee Enfield No4 Re-Barrel
Get the rifle re-barrelled with a Lother Walther. They are cheaper than an Armalon hammer forged barrel. the Down side is that there are only TWO places in the UK that will do it. One is Fultons and the other is John Bloomfield. In Either case it is John Bloomfield who is bringing the blanks into the country and machining them. He supplies Fultons with fully machined No4 barrels. I have spoken to HPS and they will only fit Stainless Lother Walther barrels and they come at the same price as a new TR 308 barrel (£600+).
I know that Gaz had a bad experience but Fultons will do a good job. Speak to either Colin or Robin at Fultons, do not speak to any one else there. The Price at Fultons is just shy of £400. PM me if you want to know how to contact John Bloomfield.

Re: Lee Enfield No4 Re-Barrel
I am told that John Bloomfield is approachable about doing the work himself. Having never met or dealt with him in person, I can't vouch for that.
