Again though I'd love to see the wording on the ticket!

Perhaps a foir is in order!
The "operators" are all licensed to posses, they need to be authorised once back in UK waters. They are also using them on UK ranges to train/practice - these are Sect 5 weapons and not section 1.

They probably aren't issuing section 1 facs but rather free to the PSC firms who then apply for sec 5 status! Which unless you have friends can be a nightmare!

I have a Sect 5 pistol on my FAC for humane despatch.

Surely the S.5 pstol will revert to a special S.1/S.7 type of status - as true S.5 pemissions are only issued by the Home Office and have nothing to do with local forces.
As in -you have an FAC - you don't have a S.5 Authority (seen a few and they are a very different piece of paper)

The carriage of firearms at sea is not as uncomplicated as you might think.

Apart from the legalities, and:

Will give you a start.

You also need to be sure that you can actually use them to good effect and stand up under fire.

It's a minefield - no pun intended.

Not really sure how it works - but on my FAC I have authority to posses a SLP (I have one, unrestricted ie no mag restrictions) Now SLPs are a Sect 5 firearm, so how in fact this works I am not sure. My restrictions for use are VERY specific and it does NOT include practice - so I cannot take it to the range and shoot paper with it, it is ONLY to be used for despatch.

The conditions of use for the SLP as printed on your FAC may give a clue

I did read somewhere WHAT the exact exemption was & how it was passed as ok for an otherwise S.5 item to be held as S.1 - but the hour is late & I cannot recall just now what it was or where I read it...possibly on one of the deer stalking forums...or on here...
