Deer Stalking… reliable word of mouth recommendation from someone you know has undertaken such stalking being offered by a specific syndicate is best. Like other walks of life, stalking has its scammers. E.G., make sure there is deer, of the species sought, on the land being made available; that appropriate insurance is in place; that there is recourse for recompense if it all goes wrong. In addition, obtain and understand terms and conditions; consider the implications of allowing a syndicate leader to be a FAC mentor; make sure ‘coaches’ are suitably qualified; consider the quality of deer management, the construction & execution of a shooting plan and safety; determine if the land is over-shot.
If in doubt, contact BASC or similar.

I have seen enough of them and the occasional Ptarmigan but never shot at them nor eaten them. That is probably as close as I will get...

Over here the State DNR (Department of Natural Resources) manages the wildlife and I must say that they do a pretty good job as well. We have quail, grouse, pheasant, all the usual game birds. In season a licence to hunt them costs $10. That's it, buy the licence from any gun shop or supermarket such as Walmart and away you go.

£120 a brace is about the going rate I think. The buggers taste of heather when you cook them as well. Give me a hen Phesi any day, much more to my taste.

I have a day or two every year. I much rather prefer over pointers than driven and have never paid the prices stated.
They taste just fine.
