Target Shooter on Ipad

#1 Post by artiglio »

Evening people,

Have the Target shooter app on my Ipad and until recently its been fine, however on my return home (and a decent interenet connection) when I open the app, it recognises my subscription as being valid but fails to offer the May/june issues for download (though perhaps june is stuck in the itunes/apple wastelands) any one had similar issue / have any suggestions?

regards phil

Just don't bother with Target Shooter now........ just too bloody difficult and inconvenient!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

You get further than I do with it. I open the app, it shows the initial loading page then crashes and takes me back to the iPad home screen. Used to work fine, but it's totally sh@gg3d now.

I spoke with Vince Bottomly over this.
They are having the App reprogrammed which has caused the current problems with the May/june downloads.
He suggested I downlad the PDF files and stick them into Ibooks.

Not very satisfactory when I have bought a subscription.
He did offer me a refund though.
Still deciding what to do.

It has become a bit of a faff recently. They also seem to have narrowed their coverage and are concentrating on F Class type shooting. No mini rifle, reduced coverage of gallery rifle etc etc.

Still worth a flick through every month.

Mike,

Target Shooter has no permanent staff writers - Laurie Holland and Chris Parkin are the only regular contributors - Laurie shoots F/TR in the GBFCA League and Chris is a vermin shooter with some tactical aspirations, so he covers things like the Egg Shoot and and reviews rifles and scopes for us.

I'm the editor and I usually have an article or two in - I shoot F Class, benchrest and tactical. Yvonne does adverts and accounts. Steve does the photography and web stuff and shoots FTR with the GBFCA League.

That's it - no one else - if you want an article on a specific discipline then get out there, shoot it, write about it and send it in - we might even pay you! That's how we get most of our stuff.

Unfortunately, the app was a money pit - it cost us around £600 per month to host and from the 59p we sold it for Apple take a third and the company who did the app for us take another third. We couldn't afford it any longer - we were losing a significant sum every month. We are looking for a more affordable alternative - any app writers out there?. We are grateful to those of you who supported us.

On the plus side - we have a massive world-wide readership covering 80 countries but will anyone pay for it - no! Why do we do it? I honestly don't know - it certainly isn't for the money!

I suppose for me, it's for the love of the sport - when Target Sports folded, I reckoned (along with Carl Boswell & Andy Dubrieul) that UK shooters deserved a monthly target shooting mag. Sadly, Carl and Andy dropped out - too much work for no return.

I get some great e-mails from all over the world but honestly, it costs me money to do this but, I was always taught that you get out what you put in.........

Surprised you opted for a dedicated app at that price! I'm looking into e-reader publishing myself at the moment, and I'm thinking the way ahead is to specialise in Kindle-compatible formats and go for an iPad-optimised section of the website to satisfy the iSheep.

Ah, the joys of publishing and the money-grabbing gits who control the access...

Thanks for the informative reply Vince. That sheds a bit of light on things. I've half an article that I was supposed to finish last year which I'll get done. Now an idea for a couple more!
