Bedding required?

Bedding required?
My new Bell & Carlson stock has a full length integrated bedding block made of aluminium, this means, in theory, that I don't need to bed the action into the stock as the aluminium will deform a small amount when its bolted in. Or will it?
Question is should I have it bedded or will the aluminium bedding block be enough?

Re: Bedding required?
i would still bed the action to the block for total supported strength, if the ally did not deform enough gaps and voids can result but if you apply a thin bedding coat the slight voids should be expelled
Re: Bedding required?
Speaking for my H S Precision stocks...they reckon no need to bed.
I have absolutely no intention of doing so.

Re: Bedding required?
Toby,
Try it without bedding first.
I built a tactical rifle on a GBR action for Target Shooter magazine last year using a Bell & Carlson with the aluminium bedding block.
I was happy to hog out the ally and bed it properly but it shot so well (260 Rem) I didn't bother in the end.
As Spud points out - the bedding can 'shift' with this system as the action 'settles' slightly in the aluminium but the target should tell you!
Cheers

I've got a B&C on my Savage...... I left it as Mr Bell and Mr Carlson intended. It's the platform for the most accurate rifle I've ever owned!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

If it does 'shift' will it just need tightening up again or will I need to bed it?
Are we talking about full bedding or just a small amount (thin layer)?

Thats encouraging. Mine will be a .308 (when the action & barrel finally arrive!). So a little more clout...I left it as Mr Bell and Mr Carlson intended. It's the platform for the most accurate rifle I've ever owned!
