Somerset

#1 Post by Stal1878 »

Alright chaps

I got my FAC about a year ago for a .22RF and mod, and bought a rifle about 6 months ago(1967 BRNO Model 2)

I get my ammo from the RFD I bought the rifle from in street, but I have had a look online and RFD in other parts of the country charge alot less!
Mine charges £5.50 per 50 regardless of brand/type. I see that the general cost is £4.50 to £5 for 50 Eley or RWS or Winchester subs and about £7 for 100 Remington subs.

I have done a google, but cannot find any other RFDs near-ish to me(bridgwater), can anyone help?
I would also be interested in joining a club so I can get a proper rifle :P but likewise havn't had much luck finding one local.

I had a look in the club thread on the "news" section, but didn't see anything.

Thanks for any input

Ben,

There are at least 2 gunshops in Bridgewater itself - I used to shoot the foreshore at Hinkley point.

From memory (and this was a while ago!!) Bond's Guns and Jim Baker - one of them was in Tynte Road.

There is also West Country gun's in Taunton.

I am guessing Avalon is whom you refer too?

I think you need to look at the extra cost of buying locally against the fuel cost of travelling, if you think the .22lr is a bit steep, wait until you start on centrefire ;)

Thanks for replies fellas

Both Avalon and West Country Guns either don't do .22 ammo or its more than I am playing at Ivythorn where I buy from at the moment.

I work in Bridgwater and I have never seen a gun shop, I have heard there is a chap who does firearms in town, but I thought he only made centrefire ammo?

If and when I get into full bore I will get something big enough that it does my shoulder in so I can't fire to many rounds
Not sure there is any full bore ranges within a reasonable distance of me though

Ivythorn is just a range, I thought you needed to be a member of a club for it to be "good reason" to get a full bore?

I did some research and Bond Guns looks like its air rifles. I have emailed Jim Baker asking if he sells ammo as its not mentioned on his site.

Lyme Regis is over an hour away from me unfortunately :(

I can tell you a lot about North Somerset!,
I know it's a bit of a trek (my brother used to study at Canington college) but there is a multi-range club in Portishead (that sells its own ammo for reasonable prices) and there is Andy Hobbs in Radstock and another shop in Pill for which I shall not name

Hi Dave.

I have mailed Andy near Radstock and he has a fair amount of ammo at £0.50 cheaper than I pay now, so if I ever am up that way I will call in to see him.

Do you know if that range in Portishead has a website? Its a fair journey, but not excessively so.
