Round stuck in chamber

#1 Post by shotgun sam »

I took my brother in law out on my permission last night and we took his howa 223 upon arrival He loaded a round into the chamber which did not go all the way into the chamber (4mm short) and stuck fast and would not eject. He said that this has happened a few times before when He has been at a range and usually can be knocked out with a rod (He did not bring one last night so that was the end of the nights shooting).

The ammo is full length resized and chambers fine in my Tikka T3 His gun is reasonably new does anyone have any ideas of what the problem is and how to fix it.

Assuming the chamber is clean have you checked the OAL? Once the round has been removed have a look and see if there are any marks on the bullet.

I have had a similar thing happen on a couple of occasions! With my Winchester I have to make sure that the round to be chambered is firmly seated into the mag well before I close the bolt. Early on I made the mistake of placing a round onto the loading ramp and trying to chamber the round with results similar to what you describe-tis a bit embarrassing on the firing line! I don't know, without checking, if the actions are similar but the Winchester uses a Controlled Round Push Feed.
Hope this helps.
