You will be spoilt for choice with the .22LR and I agree with John, there are a lot of bargains to be had if you look around.

Well done.

From experience, ask lots of questions, do your research, ask more questions, get some opinions, fire some guns then decide what you want to buy.

Excellent - its a great feeling.

Unfortunately, as has been said, there will be a lot of money spent........

I have taken the plunge now, a guy at my club is having to give up shooting on health reasons, and has sold me his 1968 Anschutz model 54 for £50 !

I have shot one target card so far, and got 78 without changing any setup (previous average 68 using club guns) :good:

GBP50 for a Model 54 - Very good price, I would have though that was a perfect first rifle and he will be able to tell you what make of ammunition it shoots best with as well. :good:

Good buy, now all you need is practice, practice, practice.

Don't let yourself be talked into buying a 'better' rifle until you are sure that your current one is holding you back.

Note the word 'sure' not think, someone says, might be - sure.

When your scores level out and one day with a borrowed 'better' gun you score more.

All shooters are given this advice, all have ignored it, myself included!

You will too, after all, if it looks better it must shoot better?

Best of luck

Model 54 - LOTS of data about that rifle in the Collector Grade book on WW2 German .22 rifles

Seems it was a WW2 design by Herr Gehmann - but nobody got around to producing it

Would love one to drop into a more modern stock as an M40 trainer
