NRA Trustee Recruitment - May 2012
The National Rifle Association (NRA) of the UK is a sports national governing body with charity status. The Association's Council (Board of Trustees) is seeking to co-opt an additional trustee to support an ongoing, challenging, business improvement initiative. Candidates for this role will need to demonstrate practical and relevant commercial development experience - preferably in the retail and/or leisure industries. A strong financial background would be advantageous and a formal qualification such as an FCA would be a bonus. Knowledge of shooting sports is not essential, though previous experience of working in the charity sector would be beneficial. It is essential that the new trustee is prepared to commit significant time and effort to this role; a minimum of 30 man-days of effort per year will be required (some of this will be during evenings and weekends) and there will be the opportunity to commit considerably more. Note that the role is unremunerated. Anyone interested in this role should send a CV to Derrick Mabbott, NRA Acting Chief Executive (derrick.mabbott@nra.org.uk) by 1st June 2012.

So the National Rifle Association now wants to recruit people into the top end who know buggerall about the association's core business?

I bet you have been swamped with candidates! But how many can do the job?

I would presume that the Trustees are looking for specific abilities to help with the re-juvenation. In that case being able to shoot isn't necessary but understanding the problems is. We have had a couple of trustees in the past who haven't been shooters but learnt and still shoot. I call that a success not detrimental.

I don't see the attraction of the position if you do not shoot. No remuneration either, why do the job?

There are those who would do the job simply to add it to their CV.
The NRA has had plenty of those, some in very senior positions.
Some were useful some less.
