Re: Siege at Tottenham Court road
This officer is from co19, he is trained to the level of SFO which means he deals with sieges/hostage rescue ect. Before TST teams were set up SFO's did 1000/1500 jobs a year. Not only that they have been deployed around the uk and world (to brazil, hong kong, greece, small british independent's ect). Also they co-train with the sas, sbs and uksf reserves and other met armed units and uk armed police, also worldwide with swat/sf units as well. The SFO remit is to deal with terrorists and/or criminals with exceptional firepower or with people so dangerous they can't be dealt with by any other means. If a mumbi style terror attack happened co19 arv's, tst and sfo teams would be their and dpg arv's as well, by the time the sas got their it would all be over. SFO's train in fast roping/apsailing, cqb, explosive entry, maritime work. Also trained to assault planes, buses, building, trains and ships/ferries. Also use burst and full auto weapons and have them.

Co19 sfo's don't have ammo/mag limits. Also the guy in the photo didn't need a normex suit/helmet as he wasn't on the assault teams. Also the mags on his chest mean his main weapon was a g36 most likely the c version

I also thought the numbers of SF and Army intel guys was droped after the tube shooting because the media made a big deal over armed SF and intel guys on UK streets along side the police.
I had also never heard of the SFO units before.

Re: Siege at Tottenham Court road
SFO stands for specialist firearms officer. After any major terror attack the sas and srr would still be deployed. The srr may be attached to the mets scd10 (their undercover unit) in the meantime. Also a maximum of two sas troopers are attached to one of the sfo units to get real world experience/see how the sfo's do raids ect, however they (the sas) are not allowed to take part/be armed or help with any plan.

Re: Siege at Tottenham Court road
There's a lot of misinformation, conjecture and outright nonsense floating about in this thread, and at least one poster is using information from a book published nearly 20 years ago- and has been pulled on it on other forums.
First off the Officer with 2 Glocks is a Met Police CTSFO, in civvies as that's how most jobs happen now days, the Glock on his hip is a 17 the Glock on his Plate Carrier is a 19, he was the Shield man and therefore didn't carry a long, he was an initial call out and as time went on and more assets deployed was replaced by guys in baby grows, within a secure cordon yes they would drop and empty weapon if things got so bad they had to empty a mag before transitioning to a second short.
On the subject of UKSF, there are now only one or two scenarios where they'd be called in, and they're not for public consumption but wouldn't be out of place on the big screen- 19 regularly train alongside UKSF and quite often kick their arses, reason being it's one of many roles for them but for 19 it's their bread & butter day in day out- same as 19 officers being dropped by air in the middle of somewhere sandy, most would be dead within the week different skills, different drills.
If anyone is interested the G36 is being dropped for the CTSFO teams because it's dog toffee, the Sig 516 is new flavour of the month, with pool weapons a thing of the past as well, the weapons issuing officer issues an individually numbered weapon to the officer at the start of each shift/callout.
And yes all 19 officers are gods of men with both length and girth, and make women swoon just by walking past
