P14 accuracy at longer ranges

#1 Post by kri5h »

Hi folks,
I have read several writings where the P14 have been extolled for their accuracy, but despite that seldom see many at the ranges I shoot at. It seems the venerable Lee Enfield is still the preferred .303 service rifle chasis at Bisley.

How accurate is the P14 as compared to a No4 or SMLE at long ranges; 1000 yards, for instance?

I read an article a few years ago.

Giving a reason (I can't remember the full details but someone here will know)
That the P14's were superior to the Lee Enfield rifles at shorter ranges but at longer rangers the Lee Enfields gained the upper hand

At 800/1000 mine is very accurate, certainly better than I am and that is without the nice trigger and fine vernier rear sight I have since fitted.

Arghh... I will go and look for the P14 rear sight now

I have read about this and have spoken to several other shooters about this compensation claim and in fact have observed it with my 1917 dated SMLE No.1 mk3*. This rifle has been fitted with PH5a vernier sights and shoots higher scores at 900 and 1000 yds than at 600 :G I dont know whether this is physics or just me, as I am used to shooting older rifles at 1000yds as a norm.

Yes Please  Can you post a picture of your rifle and tell me more about this long range shooting machine of yours.

Good link that explains compensation with the Lee Enfield action.
