This is my main gripe with rifle clubs, some seem to make it as difficult as possible for people with FAC's to shoot there as possible, let alone those who are not FAC holders! :cool2: I'll be bringing up guest days at my outdoor rifle club (3 Counties which shoots at Ponteland) at the AGM this year and i'll expect to be told where to go  Credit where credit is due, The Mayfair Shooting Centre have a guest day every month (first Saturday) where non-FAC people can come and give it a go under the supervision of a friend who is a member, or they can arrange for someone from the club to supervise them if they don't know anyone 8-) :good:

Also to be fair to 3 Counties (and Tynedale) they do allow FAC holders with SCC's to shoot there for a 'walk-on' fee (£10 IIRC). However some FAC holders don't belong to a club that can issue SCC's or a club at all, and therefore can't use the range unless they're under 1 to 1 supervision (or at least this is the case with 3 Counties).

It is possible of course, that some clubs don't want the 'hassle' of arranging a guest day.

I believe that all clubs should use the maximum allowed and then ask for more as the NRA does.

Shooting can be a great deal of fun for people who don't shoot for their sport, especially if the organisers get it right.

There are a number of people who visit every NRA open day because they enjoy it but don't want the trouble of cost and FAC/SCC etc.

There's gold in them thar hills!

Not to mention the odd new member.

dromia wrote:Well that is not how it is applied by the half dozen or so clubs I shoot with on MOD ranges (not barrack), you can only come as a guest if it is a designated guest day FAC holder or not. If it is a private range then what you say applies I suspect.
Dromia you want to sort those clubs out mate. There is no reason why FAC holders can't shoot as guests (effectively becoming members for the day) as long as they are either supervised or hold the necessary competence certificates and also that the necessary arrangements regarding insurance and club constitution are made. Guest days are for non FAC holders.
All the clubs in my part of the country have allways welcomed fellow shooters and frankly it is the only way that clubs can afford to shoot on MOD ranges.
