Split brass from .22lr - Ok or ....?

I have never seen it and never heard of it, please take your rifle back before you get hurt. Your RFD should have plenty of cheap .22 rifles that you can replace that one with. A call to your FET explaining what has happened should see them happy as to why you want to swap your rifle,

Hi
I have just had a look on the web to see what your rifle is , I see its a Canadian semi auto the only dealings I have had with SA is the Ruger 10/22 but I dont suppose the basic way it works is much different , So this is my thoughts , a chambered round under normal cicumstances is safe and designed not to split , so is the round actualy remaining chambered , if not then the recoil spring which keeps the bolt closed may be at fault , has the previous owner put in a lighter spring so it would work with lower pressured sub sonic ammo . What Iam thinking is your ammo is blowing the bolt back early letting the case to be unsupported , I think this may be called " out of battery " . Still its a thought that may help

ps found on Wiki " out of battery " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out-of-battery
Theres one of these on guntrader for £50.00

Your thoughts on "out of battery" sound highly likely to me.
Christel:- thanks for your concern. Thankfully I always wear safety glasses, and not because I'm a smart alec, but because I learn't the hard way many years ago!
DM and Watcher:- I reckon you are right, refund time!
Thanks again All

would it be possible to change the recoil spring , I know the 10/22s are easy , or ask the RFD if he can do it . I have a spare 10/22 spring if it would fit its yours , its one of the original springs I had after replacing mine for a lighter spring . The spring is 5 3/8" long with a 1/8" internal diameter .

I'd be very surprised if it was firing out of battery...
Try it with different ammo - or just take it back to the RFD for a refund/exchange!

Re: Split brass from .22lr - Ok or ....?
Hi All, just a brief update with regards to this "gun". After all the advice, I decided to return the thing - safety first...
The RFD was Ok about this, and returned my money less the cost of the ammo I bought.
I think I'm gonna buy a new Browning T-Bolt, once I have my variation through to free up the slot on my license again - once that happens I might be asking for the FB's collective thoughts as to whether I should.... or not!!
I would also like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who helped me with this, all the support both on the open forum, and by PM. It was great to know that I was not on my own!
Thanks again
