My 'smith has actions he's made using No 4 bolt parts specifically for proofing barrels. There are versions to suit barrels threaded for various actions; I can't remember how he headspaces them though.

Update - the new barrel is on the rifle and I'm off to Bisley on Sunday to zero it and check that there aren't any more comedy moments in store.

All done free of charge! Test fired and zeroed it today and it was mostly ok - a few heavy strikes and one pierced primer, which I'm now convinced is because the striker protrusion is too long.

Will post some piccies and a range report in a bit - need some dinner first!
