OK , so I have been reloading some .223 with 3 different bullet weights 52 , 60 , 69 grains all different makes and different loads , then I did 5 different batchs of powder weight and headed for the range on Saturday at Thetford gallery , I did get some flyers which were off the board the reason for that I am hoping was due to the wind but I cant be certain .
For the 200 and 400 yard tests I was impressed with the 52 grain SMKs , but yes these would be vunerable to wind deviation .
The question in my mind is this , is it better to stay with a higher bullet weight for all distances or mix and match to the circumstances . My reason for asking is that I am having a hard job trying to rationalise this in my mind before I set a plan in action .
As for the other two loads things were a bit indifferent at the longer ranges to say yes thats a definite best load , whats needed is more time testing I suppose . What Iam needing is how you guys do it and what works best in your opinion .

Re: Personal preference , help !
Personally, build an accurate load for the furthest distance you shoot and use that for everything. My .223 load has been used for everything from 100 to 900 with great success, even though 900 is not something I do very often....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I've sort of settled on 75gn Hornady in RG cases for mag use and 77gn SMK in Lapua cases for single loading on my 20" 1 in 8". Currently using the same on my 26," 1 in 7 but still experimenting with 80 & 90 grainers for it. Max range I shoot at is 600 yards, for obvious reasons.
