Orange Free State Boer War Mauser

#1 Post by jjvc »

Got the opportunity of taking a few snaps of one of Dromia's latest acquisitions a couple of weeks back, unfortunately i haven't had the chance of shooting it just yet.

DWM manufacture in quite nice condition with a very good bore.

I would have the target sling swivel off of it myself. 1989 is the sn btw (serial number by the way for Alpha1) ;)

Shoots real sweet, a target he shot at 110yd with PPU factory ammo. Am i a trifle green with envy?
You bet.

Phwoarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!! :good:

Yes she is a beauty, been after a Boer War Mauser for a while to contrast with my Long Lee's, had a few through my hands over the years but they had poor bore's and/or had been refurbished (wood sanded etc.).

This one shoots great, tried some hand loads through it and got 3/4" X 1 1/4" groups with 42.5 gns of IMR 4350 under a 150 gn SMK PPU LR Primers in 1 x fired PPU brass, Joe has the photograph.

The icing on the cake is that this an OVS rifle (7,900 rifles) rather than the more prolific ZAR rifles (37,000 rifles).

According to Ball this rifle should have the inspection mark on the left side of the stock but this rifle has it on the right.

Currently giving her a good clean.
