Blue is affectionately referred to as the Dog from hell. He is a lovable chap and frighteningly loyal to Christel which can be a problem when she is out with him as all other dogs, horses, pigeons and people mean her ill and need to killed. He has no issues with cats or sheep.
Weims are very special creatures and I can honestly say I have never known another dog like him.
As far as the .338LM goes, that much N165 behind the 250LB is an ideal and from a personal view point I would not consider dropping it back any, after all it is what it was designed for and if the Danes are anything to go by you should get a fair few rounds through it before having to worry about barrel wear.
Weimaraners are indeed special, but hard work on the nerves. The last two I had would always find a way through the hedge when the farmer moved sheep along the lane - they weren't in the least interested in the sheep but knew there was a dog in there somewhere. We call our Rottie the Devil Dog in the hope of improving her image, because if there was anything less like those dogs mentioned in the press it is her as she is frequently beaten up by Jack Russels and yappy terriers, wags her tail at the postman and kids go to sleep on her. Believe me a long way from Weimars because you no longer have to worry about anything living coming into proximity. You can actually lie in the sun with the dog at your side and go to sleep!
Yes I think the .338LM load is about right - must stop worrying!
Our dog walker has always said that he is half human...
He is.
A friend of ours has had two Rotties, sadly one is gone now, while out walking them she would frequently be yelled at because of them, I am not sure why they have gained such a bad reputation, never met a Rottie that was bad in my life. They look funny with tails though :)

Hi Christel Weimars are certainly lovely dogs and I agree there is something very different about them and they are telepathic I am sure. I remember someone who owed us money for horse livery coming to the door and me deciding I would tackle him about the outstanding debt but before I could Brahms strolled round the back of him bit him hard on the backsde and walked back and sat down beside me. He paid up; maybe it was his intention but dear old Brahms made sure - he lived to 14.5 which is good for a big dog. My first Rottie had a tail but this one, Boo, has a very expressive stump.
I know they get through barrels but 1500 rounds??? Are stainless barrels better or worse? I have an AI with an SSteel Walther barrel and expected at least 2000 rounds out of it.[/quote]
You are burning a lot of powder - all the big magnums are barrel-burners but often their owners don't shoot a lot of rounds so appear to last. Plus, a 'goosed' barrel may still give sufficient accuracy if you are just plinking.
Chrome-moly will last significantly longer than stainless-steel but gunsmiths love stainless because it's nice to machine.
The guys I shot with last year told me they had to get 6,000 rounds of Lapua Match through their TRG's - They had no say in the matter and the one I shot was so loose it rattled but was still giving very good accuracy and it's owner was not going to part with it any time soon.
