Shooting book for a 16 year old?

#1 Post by Watcher »

My son is 16 in a few weeks time and I'd like to get him a book as one of his gifts. He's getting quite into his TR and has got a place on the cadets county shooting team. I'd like to get him something on technique if possible. Grateful for any suggestions.

TIA

Sorry, can't recommend a TR book - I've looked for a good one myself, but they're a bit thin on the ground....

....But well done to your lad for getting on the team :good:

The small series of books by Mst Sgt Jim Owens, sold by Sinclair Int & available on-line from other sites is very good.
Several dedicated volumes...well worth the money at twice the price!!

Hmmm, if he's taking up shooting he'll need a cheque book...

The only one I can think of that is really TR specific is 'Target Rifle Shooting' (Reynolds and Fulton), which is showing its age now, not to mention hard to find. Apart from that there's also the 'Target Rifle Coaching Course Notes' from the NRA.

I've used the following, but in most cases they are either rather heavily focussed on ISSF or are rather advanced, and although I did have some of these at 16 I didn't really benefit from them much until I was, erm, a *bit* older.

'Target Rifle Shooting', Parish & Anthony [ISSF/positional]
'Ways of the Rifle', Various, [ISSF/positional]
'Rifle Shooting as a Sport Vol. 1 & 2', Bernd Klingner [ISSF/positional]
'The Wind Book For Rifle Shooters', Miller & Cunningham [Advanced wind]
'With Winning in Mind', Lanny Bassham [Advanced psych]
