Advice, please

#1 Post by whoowhoop »

Okay, I am at the stage now where I feel the need to progress in my reloading and I think that it would benefit from having a chronograph.
I am open to suggestions for what is a good basic one for someone with my fat fingers to use.
I need it simple, easy to read and good value.
Is it really worth having a printer?
Any pitfalls?
Don't want any pratfalls....
Gentlemen and ladies, I await your sage advice.

many thanks in anticipation

Well I do like the CED which has the advantage of keeping the display box next to you at the firing point and the pick ups at the end of a couple of wires. The CED can be plugged into a computer when you get home and allows you to download all of your shot strings, it even does an analysis giving things like ES and means you can print it at your leisure.

It also means you cannot shoot the control box however the CED can take a 7mm or two without complaining unlike the Chrony which just explodes....

I got that last bit in before anyone else had a chance to!

If you are on a budget and after a basic chronograph then I would recommend the Chrony F1. In it's basic form it just reads velocity but with the addition of a very simple remote button you can access the information locked in it's brain showing such as string average, higest/lowest speed, ES, and SD.

If you buy it from an archery shop rather than a shooting shop you will save yourself another £15.00

....plus you can build the remote button for about a fiver with parts from Maplins.

Many thanks for the advise.
Feel the need for some retail therapy coming on.
Think the wife's chocolate ration will have to take a hit...
