Simon, Should you ever get over this way (yeah I know unlikely) you will be more than welcome mate. You can shoot handguns to your hearts content. For me personally, the freedoms I have here with regards to firearms is probably one of the reasons I would never consider returning to live in the UK, that and the standard of living. America has it's problems and it's poor as the UK does but the standard of living here is miles ahead of the UK.

For instance, last night myself and she who must be obeyed tried a new restaurant that we discovered, we both had a really nice meal, bottle of wine, her dessert, all the usual stuff, cost for the meal with tip was less than $50. Now you folks tell me where in the UK you could get that at that price. The last time we went for a meal in the UK I had to leave my first born to pay for the meal, and hey don't get me started on hotel prices over there, they are a *%#^%#! ripoff.

As I have said already it's far from perfect here but there is no way I would ever return to live in the UK, a visit is fine but that's about it for me.

Dragging ourselves away from "blu" envy

There is one at Ashbourne in Derbyshire (Not local to you! - but to me :55: )

It is an indoor tunnel range (100 yds) but you do need to book a day or two in advance (they only have 2 lanes and you book by the hour @ £10/hr)

Mike do you have any further details of the range at Ashbourne? My parents are in Chesterfield and when we visit we are usually heading home 13:00 ish to save unduly tiring my Father, it could be a handy place to call into for some load development on the way back.

I wish I had the land to do that!

It took us a long time to get to where we are now, we had land when we lived down State but there were too many folks living nearby to build a range. Up here however it's a different story, On the property now we have a natural small valley with woods and a natural back stop. Even so I am still going to build a backstop using the old telephone poles, they can be bought here for $10 each. I'm going to have the backstop 20 feet high with encompassing sides going out at an angle with earth and sand up against the back of the stop, I'm then going to put in target slots made from wood every 25 yards from the firing point up to the 400 yard point.

The firing point itself will be poured concrete with three shooting tables for the shooters. After that's all done it's happy shooting days are here again :shakeshout:

Well I think that just about covers our requirements
The range looks to be very well equipped and is within 30m of my parents house and in the right direction as well, I will need to give them a call however I assume weekdays is always going to be the better option with such a place as it must fill up quite quickly at weekends.

I will give you a shout when we have sorted a date and see if we can meet up.

I've been speaking with other fellas about this as well and unfortunately, nothing in the South East. About half hour away, there are two military range complexes that civilian clubs use. A few years ago, Landmarc were asked about the possibility of opening one or two of the ranges commercially, on a pay and play basis. Concensenus was, more trouble than it's worth.
