Restore or not restore ??

If you can obtain a U.S. 5 cent piece rub the edge of the coin on each spot of rust. It will remove the rust without damaging the metal finish. Steel wool can remove the metal finish along with the rust.

One of the best ways I've found to remove rust spot without stripping of the blueing is to rub with a metal pan scourer, not a Brillo pad but one of the loose weave types, soaked in a little Ed's Red. Lifts the pitting but leaves the blueing.
