Densely packed by 1130, left at two-ish skipped whole tents, probably were some bargains to be had but not enough "old" rifles compared to last year. Riflecraft stand very quiet compared to last year, some stands you couldn't get near.Angelfire wrote:Well, any one got any report to make on said show, good/bad/fair. was it busy, any stand out bargins, how was the traffic etc etc.

Anyone travelling back into East Anglia: the advance diversion signing is abysmal. DO NOT come off the A1 at Alconbury, you can't get as far as Huntingdon bypass.
Unless you know a cross-country route which works you're coming down the A1 and off at St Neots and back to Cambridge that way.
Oh yes, dropping down the hill from Camborne to Cambridge, the police were in the layby with some kind of camera: they could have just been filming the weight of traffic but somehow I doubt it!
Re: Newark Today 25/02/2012
I enjoyed it! I picked up some TR140 and ELCHO17 powder at GBP50/Kg which is a very keen price, 1000 Fed210M primers for GBP33/1000 which is good again, I saw some very nice new items on the Osprey and Dolphin stands, things like bipods, rifles, bottom metal which were CNC machined and finished to a very high standard and generally saw a lot of new gear. This year seems to be a Tacticool year for rifles and there were a lot on show in various guises. Clothing seemed very pricey by comparison, I saw quite a few smock type jackets and they ranged from GBP150 to GBP350 (Ouch!)
Getting in for 08:45 was easy enough with not much of a queue but the show was very busy itself and getting out took maybe 30 minutes. I really did enjoy the show and am already looking forward to next year at the new venue.

First time I have been so can't comment as to if it was better or worse than before
We got there for around 7.45 and no problems with traffic, there was already loads of people there.
I found it just too busy and couldnt look at stuff I wanted to because I couldn't get near some of the stands, I didn't get much off my shopping list as either couldn't find it or it was more expensive than I can get off the net or local gun shops, we saw both our shotgun models there and they were both more expensive than what I paid a few weeks ago, I wanted some more shotgun cartridges but again more expensive than my local supplier.
I do have quite alot of catalogues and brochures to drool over though. I have the west country game fair to go to in 2 weeks, so hopefully that won't be so busy.

Re: Newark Today 25/02/2012
It was really busy, cars, people, dogs.
Was told that they are moving next years show further south to a bigger venue.
From when we started talking about getting some food until we actually got some it was some 3 hours gone. We talked to loads of people.
Really pleased we went.
...whoop whoop, Attleborough, 20series, heatherw762, saddler, dangermouse, sanselm, gunpimp, mikmak (and wife Tina), gunsmoke, ENS (with family), rifleman798 and his Dad, rangemaster pete, (Brian Fox and Son (not on the forum) Peter Hobson (not on the forum) Lean (I am sure people who go to The Phoenix knows him as the guy who sells rifle bags from Holland)...
Some 7 hours at the show, gosh, I am tired

I had a look at the new Merkel straight pull rifle, very slick indeed with the ability to swap barrels and bolt faces in seconds, just close the bolt, press a button and off comes the fore end, a lever drops the barrel and bolt face out, pop a new barrel and bolt face in, close the lever, replace the fore end and chamber a new catridge, quicker to do than type.

It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!
