Re: Do you shoot at 1000 yards?
I am always up for a 1k day

Re: Do you shoot at 1000 yards?
If you can shoot at 600 yds, you can shoot at 1000. The scorecards have the MOA adjustment necessary on them so one would expect to hit the target first time, unless it is blowing a gale! My first 1000 shoot was at the Imperial last year and I somehow managed to get the all within the 9 ring. It is definitely worth having a go, and I would be game for a 1000 yd day.

Does ramping up the sights on a Mosin M38 to the longest distance and taking pot shots at a tank, from standing, count?!

Yes I have shot at 1000+, in the wind on Sunday it was rather interesting.
I was extremely surprised to see some blokes shooting long barreled, rested pistols out to 1000 on Stickledown over the weekend.

I'd like to say yes, although with no one spotting it was quite hard to tell!
I'll start shooting long distances properly when I get a good scope for my .308!
Re: Do you shoot at 1000 yards?
I have only shot at 1000 yards once and enjoyed it immensely. This was at Glen Tilt and was an informal long range shoot. We started the day off at 500 yards before moving back to 1000 yards.
Shooting at 500 yards was great, and moving back to 1000 yards it took a bit of thinking to get my head around effects of infamously varying Glen Tilt wind.
The most surprising thing I noticed was when I was target marking – very few of the rounds arriving from 1000 yards were still supersonic. Having spoken some of the more experienced shooters I realise that my homeloaded .308 rounds were also very unlikely to be supersonic.
Looking forward to trying it again!

Hence the need for the chronograph. Can be a pain to use and will drive you mental if not careful, but it will allow you to more accurately plot what your rounds are doing at varying ranges.ChrisW wrote:............... Re: Do you shoot at 1000 yards?
In the absence of a Chrono you can get a reasonable idea of MV based on your drops to say 600 yards from a 100 yard zero, by using something like JBM you can get a feel for your muzzle velocity to probably within 25-35 fps however JBM will not tell you how consistent your load is or the ES.
If this all sounds a bit alien to you or anyone else please do shout and I will see if I can write a quick tutorial on the subject.

Yes it was. The wind on Saturday was as bad or worse though. My wind plot for some of my shooting on Sunday showed surprisingly little variance - clearly this is where experience will help!JonC wrote:Yes I have shot at 1000+, in the wind on Sunday it was rather interesting.
