I could see you going in the direction of Black Powder, I know you have an interest. Chaps were shooting at 1000 yards along side Eagernoskill yesterday, that has to be satisfying,

I still have a couple of tubs of black powder as well. What I do not have is good enough eyes so I would need some assistance at longer ranges. Something with a wooden stock would be good old or new, I have just spent a couple of days oiling the stock of the S&L and it is strangely rewarding.

What about a Gew 98 with the rollercoaster sights! Maybe not a grand and of on a tangent but still it is old and long...!

Good call and it is still possible to find fairly original versions as well.

Glad you liked it. They've got a cracking action on them! Overpriced Fultons have a couple and K98's in at the mo!

K31, good to 1000 at least and cheap to buy and feed, quirky action and lots of wood :good: if you need a scope you can fit a clamp on rail with out damaging the rifle.

I second the that, and am looking to fit a scope in the near future. They can be reloaded for around 35p, so they are not hard on the pocket

A bit off topic but what bullets would you recommend to reload K31s with, if I can't get hold of GP11 (AmmoZone appear to be out!)

Actually, a G98 is a good shout. I have one and it's a good shooter. Very long and retro-German. Oddly the sights are set to a minimum of 400 metres, which makes things interesting.
