Early female UK target shooter
I am not familiar with the UK female target shooters from way back when. I tried to google it but did not really find anything apart from a wiki on Marie Marvingt.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Marvingt
Considering she did just about everything there is to do under the sun and she is not British she does not really qualify in my eyes.
I am after British women competing in 1910-1930.
I know there is something called the 99s but can't find any British among them although surely there must be.
Maybe this is a Q for Heather or Karen?

Marjorie Foster won the Queens Prize in 1930 but I don't know of any earlier ones.
The next woman to win the Queens was Jo Hossack in 2000 - 70 years later - and she was only 20 at the time (and blonde & leggy!!!)

I have to say blonde and leggy is an instant disqualifier.

Crikey, 70 years apart.
I will see what I can find on Marjorie.
Thanks Heather.

Marjorie Foster organised the Amazon Defence Corps. There are only a few mentions of her on google.
I shall have to dig further.

Re: Early female UK target shooter
Just did a search on the NRA site and there is no mention of her?
Re: Early female UK target shooter
No, there isn't anything historical, other than a potted history of the NRA. We have masses of stuff in the museum but all in hardcopy.....

A visit to the NRA is on the cards.
Here is a thought, someone ought to put it all online...

Unfortunately it's not that easy :( The museum curators are great guys, absolutely chock full of information, amazing people to talk to but average age about 80!! There plain isn't anyone (or any money) to do it. Wish there was cos the collection is amazing.
If you have any particular questions you can always email museum@nra.org.uk. Now I know what you are thinking, if they can cope with email they can get something online..... The emails actually go to reception who print them off for them. They do the investigating, write down the answer and reception answer the email

If that system works then fine. Thanks for the email. I will try that.
Shame about not having anyone to digitalise it. So what happens when the curators are no more, if their average age is that high then in not so many years surely it will be a problem?

We are very much aware of that possibility. Problem is that it tends to be the older guys who have that kind of in depth knowledge, at any time of life, and so are less likely to be up with technology.
