Hi John

The Membership Committee issued a promise about 4 or 5 years ago to get membership down from the then £85 to £50. Of course, the Committe is subject to the whims of the Trustees. Membership Ctte did it in easy stages and membership went up pretty much proportionately (ie we had more members but no more money). The Trustees bottled the last reduction from £55 to £50 last year, and membership cost is on the up. It will be interesting to see the mid-2012 membership stats.

Range hire is one area I'm going to argue the NRA position. My view is that the NRA should provide just about everything else at Bisley as near cost as possible, and rake the profit in on the range hire. Apart from anything else, range space at Bisley is a valuable commodity that we do not have enough of. If users have to pay a steep price for it, they will get on and off the point in a hurry, give up discussing obscure problems on the point, shoot three to a target so it's going up and down every fifteen seconds, and so on. All of these behaviours contribute to "the encouragement of marksmanship" because we get more people shooting more rounds in the same space and time. That said, the corollary is that the NRA should drive every other cost down as far as possible.

AM, do a CQB on Siberia followed by the traditional 200 + 300 matches PM.
Followed by falling plates on Pirbright early evening.
Contact the CSR Rep (Paul Hunter)(link on the NRA website) and ask. If the range space is available the NRA will sell it.

The main driver to attract more use for less costs to make the prices more attractive during the week and over much of the low season. Whilst charges are lower during the low season you might benefit from them being even lower. What about making Melville available in the evenings, flood lighted if necessary. Is Melville a no danger area range?

There may well be stuff that people would like to shoot for a morning but don't even know is available. I know a lot of people who were on my probationary course would like to be able to try out different kit before applying for a FAC.

Also stop asking people to post you paper forms full of credit card information, before rather than after something unfortunate happens.
Point taken, as said before, our list of available (interesting) guns (anyone want a .50" Black Powder rifle?) will be made available.

Re cc forms. I cannot speak for other departments, but I accept paper with the card no and a follow-up email with the exp date and security no; or the reverse; or a phone call with the critical details. Or you can use Sagepay or other pure electronic means and the processing companies are liable. Everthing I get with exp date and/or sy number on it goes in the shredder as soon as I have processed the payment. And the NRA shredder is an ex-military Top Secret cleared machine - I know, I was a military Security Officer for 28 years.

The Jagt Felt Skydning competition is the most interactive and fun competition that I have ever watched.
Anywhere.

Well worth thinking about introducing in the UK.

Don't have to be a hunter, a lightweight rifle is all that is needed, you need to be able to shoot standing up with it.

Practical shotgun competitions?
The Wind and Plotting courses come either at zero profit or are done for donations to causes like the Young Shooter Fund or the Overseas Team Fund. They have never contributed to NRA central. Obviously they contribute to "the encouragement of Marksmanship" so yes, we should sell them as widely as possible. But there is no money in it for the NRA.

Happy to have Practical Shotgun. On the basis that an external organisation turns up, convinces us that what it wishes to do falls within the safety template of our ranges and pays the commercial cost of using our ranges. If PS wants to be part of the the NRA, the first step is to demonstrate how it contibutes to (here I go again) "The encouragement of Marksmanship". After that we will discuss safety from the ground up, process of entering the discipline, training to advance, competition rules, sponsorship, management and a bunch of stuff that I can't think of at 2127 and a big glass of wine. Then, and only then, we will discuss with IPSC and UKPSA who runs what where and when. Till then we Acknowledge IPSC and UKPSA - see the 2012 Bisley Bible on 1 April for the definition of Controlled, Recognised and Acknowledged disciplines.

UKPSA are a bunch of control freaks, they won't let the NRA 'Control' their discipline. ;)

EagerNoSkill wrote:Some great ideas above

Some more ...

CORPORATE SHOOTING DAYS
Setup a package of "fun with gun events"
Arrange "lite training that is also fun"

More than the clay pigeon days
Besides income we will get exposure to new potential members

ACTION EVENTS WITH 22 lr pistol carbines
A whole variety can be provided

SIBERIA 300
is totally under utilised
Action Shotgun & Action Carbine maybe

Signage on the roads would help
Bisley is another
Fun with Gun - yeeeeees maybe. I get the idea but we do have to be really careful with our public profile. We can only push the most correct and non-controversional concepts.

More than the Clay Pigeon Clays - sorry dont understand - more detail please.

22lr pistol carbines - sorry, its illegal.

Siberia 300 - has been out of use since the 1960s. If you mean Siberia 200, we are recognising that there is huge demand for Siberia 100, and are moving the 200 shooter onto Century butt 19 to make space. We have an aspiration to reopen Shorts (firing point behind Jennys) as a 200 yd covered range with electronic targets. The cost is steep to do it properly but we think the demand is there; wait out.

Hi Ian

Meant to say Clay Pigeon Days
Seems to be a favourite with corporates

Fun days with 22lr bolt action having ballon shoots or reactive fall plates

Make the secretary beat the boss

Btw I like the solution tone on both sides of this solution

There's a bright idea. Go to established crowd pullers (Alton Towers / Legoland / Beaulieu / etc) and set up a fun .22" range doing GR stuff that anyone can pick up the gun and HAVE A GO legally under S11.

I will take that away for a think.
