Tell me about Section 7 firearms

#1 Post by targetman »

I would dearly love to own a WW1 Webley and understand that this can be catagorised as a "Heritage Firearm" under section 7 of the Firearms Act....

Can anybody tell me what section 7 means to the prospective owner?

Thanks in advance...

Section 7.1 means that you can keep the firearm at home without ammunition and it cannot be shot.

Section 7.3 means that the firearm can be kept at a designated 7.3 range and can be shot, you cannot take it home.

Usually you need to demonstrate an interest in collecting such firearms and there is a date line of 1916 if I remember correctly although if the firearm can proven to be of some historical significance then that date line can be waived.

I kept some pistols on 7.3 after the ban.

I believe the date line was 1919, except for handguns that are of unique design or of historical significance, ie. a gun owned by Elvis Presley

Does anyone have an electronic copy of Section 7.1 and 7.3?

I've posted that guidance in the Library for future reference.

Type "Firearms Act 1968" into a search engine and near the top will be the UK Government legislation site open at the correct page to give you the whole Act as amended. Go into Contents, click on Section 7, and you have it from the horse's mouth. Works for just about any bit of UK legislation.
