When you look at Biathlon rifles the stock designs vary vastly tastes change with time , I have this BRNO Model 4 called a target match stock yet I saw one on RFC a couple of weeks ago same shape but with a mag well and the spare mag holders on the FE , being classed as biathlon .
There are only 2 commercial manufacturers of Biathlon Rifles. Izhmash (RUS) and Anschutz (GER). While it is possible to modify various .22lr rifles for Biathlon use, the limited cost savings achieved, typical lack of cold weather performance, non-adjustable triggers, and lack of stock adjustability makes this a poor option and is not recommended.
Biathlon is indeed a most enjoyable sport to watch and not only for the female athletes ... Magda Neuner made it very very hard for me to give unconditional support for the French team at the 2010 Olympics ...
If you fancy having a try, head for Bessans in la Maurienne en France which I suspect is one of the closest place from the UK which Biathlon school. Practicing the nordic skiing side is very easy with dry ski in England and I trust you'll be 1st class at shooting - a champ is born ?
The range we shoot at in Denmark also runs summer Biathlon shoots, so much nicer trotting around the woods on a nice summers day than on a freezing cold snowing evening...

They have Biathlon targets and many hectares of forrest so you can run around a course and shoot at targets along the way, I have never tried it but have seen the markers out for it and some of the youngsters running round.

Thanks for those details .
If I understand correctly what you say, the shooters actually run on a path ? not roller-ski on a track ? That sounds also like a very fun way of spending an afternoon and take dynamic shooting to a new dimmension
They jog around the forest tracks which are mostly sandy so about as far away from snow as you can get. It does look like a lot of fun and it was partly what tempted me to get the S&L Sporter which is to be used for Field Sport shooting and is quite like a Biathlon rifle but chambered in 6,5x284 with a 12X 'scope. The Jagtfeltskydning is shot over a course of ranges and different distances and involves a fair amount of travel from point to point.
Bad picture as ever but here it is. I have made a few modifications since this picture was taken.
