Air gun laws - world wide

I decided to research what was available in Europe and found this Wikpedia page. The content may not be 100% accurate, but I thought that it was interesting.

Looks like Ovenpaa can get a what would be a UK Sec1 air rifle, over the counter in Denmark, that would do the rats no favours,

I shot a PCP 'Air-rifle' in DK a couple of years ago, it shot 155 grain projectiles and the owner assured me it was good enough for fox to 300m. I only had a couple of shots with it and all I can say is WOW!

No licence required in DK...

I put a 155 grain bullet (Pellet?) through a 30mm plywood board at exactly 100m with this very rifle. How do I know it was 100m? erm.... Cos it said so on it

I had no idea there were so many restrictions elsewhere. I thought we were one of the only places in the world to have stupid airgun laws. Idiocy knows no national boundaries it seems.

S1 type airguns are OTC in Turkland, 1500FPS from a .177. Springer. PCP, air whatever...oh and SLUG of any calibre and quantity is also OTC... :lol: :lol: :lol: it's not a scary thermonuclear round like the UK think it is.

I had a .22 springer that gave over 28ft/lbs (cost me £50 at the time) and a .177 that was even better with UK pellets!

An update regarding air guns from a Danish forum I am on.

There has been continued "threats" to revise the firearms laws in DK, to restrict compressed air weapons/guns but it has not yet come into effect.

This in reality means that anything that shoots a projectile using compressed air is not a firearm ... Currently I'm working on an "Air-Cannon" that is supposed to shoot beer cans or fruit at suitable targets :mrgreen:

The laws governing hunting allows the use of airguns to shoot smaller game in DK. it's a slightly complex set of paragraphs, using both calibre, muzzle velocity and energy to determine which game a given weapon is legal for. Strangely the law does not specify the type of air-weapon, so theoretically an air-pistol powerful enough would be legal.. otherwise "short guns" are very strictly a "no go" in hunting i DK. another strange thing is that silencers are only illegal on "firearms" not on airguns...

So a 35ft/lb air rifle can be held without any form of licence....

I can just remember years ago reading of an Austrian army unit having repeating air rifles that could be lethal to humans at 100 yds, I think in the 1700s. The gun had compressed air in the butt and a tubular magazine under the barrel. It was pumped up to pressure by a long thin pump.
