Re: FAC calibre ?

Bnz had a similar question some time ago. He wanted a .308/7.62x51 so wrote it like that on his application. Essex authority told him he would have to choose one of the calibres. Even though he wanted only one rifle he put down both as separate entries. That way he could chose when he found the right rifle.
This separation of the "like" calibres has come in handy recently when he has been looking for a new Mauser. Having them written separately has meant he had a better choice.
Hope that makes sense :G

Bedfordshire look on .308 & 7,62x51 as exactly the same thing but appreciate that a rifle may be proof stamped as either one or the other so if you ask them to add a slot for .308/7,62x51 they do so.

Hi all
read with interest,
i had 7.92 on my cert and bought a 8x57 when it arrived at the rfd he wasnt going to sign it over, what a lot of explainging i had to do to persuade him, also the Police FEO then got in touch and I had to prove the 8x57, 8mm and 7.92 were all the same.

I asked about putting 8x57 and 8mm along with 7.92 on the cert but they wouldnt go with that, albeit the person i bought it from had all these on his.
so if i was going for one in the future i would try 8mm or 8x57 especially for buying bullets from a rfd who doesnt know the differences if any lol

when i asked for my .308 i just put .30cal and for .22 hornet I asked for a .22 centerfire so i had plenty of choice to go at . All the FAC form 101 asks is caliber not chamber size! This works with my Police Force.

Same with Grampian. :good: Although I have specified a cartridge (eg 8x56R) to clarify a variation request, but mostly they're happy with just a calibre.

It had it down as 7.92, my RFD just told me 7.92 or 8mm with or without the x57 was acceptable to him

Ours ask that we be more specific, a 30 Cal could be anywhere from a 7,62x39 to a 300RUM or even a 30-338.

That's the rub, you shouldn't need too!

Yes they could be any of those chamberings but they are all still just a .30cal which is what it asks for on the 101 form.
