The most inaccurate rifle you have ever shot.......

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

In this day and age of factory rifles shooting sub MOA out of the box (Or so many manufacturers would claim) It set me thinking, what is/was the most inaccurate rifle you ever owned or shot. For me it was my beloved no1 MkIII* 5MOA at 100 yards was doing well and often it was a bit more erratic, the first CZ 9mm I ever shot would return 12” groups at 25 yards if I was lucky and often threw a round off paper. I did shoot a borrowed .455 Webley service revolver at the sand one afternoon, it was hitting consistently 18” off aim point in all directions so we can assume three foot groups were the norm, for me at least. Finally I shot one of the early GSG 22’s at 50 yards it was indescribably bad however that was possibly explained by the ‘scope falling off after about 30 shots....

So what is the worst rifle or even pistol you have ever shot?

Got to be a Pistol......

The most inaccurate has to be a North American Arms 22 Short Derringer....

Followed closely by a Colt Junior 22 Short...

It would be a toss-up between the Browning 9mm pistols we were issued for concealed carry in NI and the last of the SLR's (just before issuing the SA80).

The Brownings - rattling old things that seemed to bleed oil, no matter how little you used and would be more deadly if thrown as a weapon.

The SLRs - I'm still convinced that they searched through the SLRs a year before and quietly sold them off because suddenly there wasn't a decent one amongst them and the shooting tests became a joke. Folks would deliberately aim at the stone pile infront of the targets in order to get a splash and a recorded hit off the bouncing stones.

Imbel FAL Para. It shot patterns rather than groups due to a slightly bug****d barrel from overuse of a BFA.
Screwed on a new barrel & it shoots 2MOA.
Or there was the .308 Ruger M77 MkII with a beautiful trigger that couldn't better 4" @ 100yds no matter what it was fed.

92f without a doubt!! Even in the ransom rest i proved how shocking it was at 25m 9inch group!! Second has to be the spikes tactical.22 i flogged that rubbish straight away........and third ide say was the browning hp pistol, nice looking and feeling pistol but woefully inaccurate, and fell to bits like a rover sd1 at the traffic lights!!

I did shoot either a C7A1 back in September, fitted with an Elcan C79, the sights are usally OK however the spring had gone on this one and I was struggling to keep it on a man sized target at 200m. The instructors who omitted to tell me is was borked were falling about with laughter as I struggled to keep it on target, best practice seemed to be to cant the rifle over at some 30 degrees and aim a foot to the left which did get me registering on the electronics....

I had forgotten the Browning HP

I've not shot a great deal of rifles unfortunately, (non to rival the above stories anyway!) but did once see a gun go off in the space of a few hours!

It was quite scary* how quickly this thing started shooting wild. Probably went off in the space of 30-40rnds. Zeroed fine in the morning with a pretty standard grouping but come mid afternoon it was all over the place. We test fired it with a new sight and one round would hit the target the next would be kicking up dust way in front, the one after was at the top of the butts all were waaaay left and right of point of aim!!

It was funny as f**k watching the lad (who is a damn fine shot) chunter away to himself "there's summit wrong with me rifle", we obviously just took the p*** constantly even after it was proven he was right!

I'll vote for the Browning HP pistol & My SLR, both shiite, I did much better with the SMG & L4. My No5 is probably the most innaccurate rifle I now own but I can still keep most of the shots with it on a Fig 11 at 200 yards.
