No it does not matter-provided the guns you own or want to own can be used on the ranges theres no reason why the club should be informed.Im membership secretary of our club and when someone sticks a variation in for an additional firearm the FLD contact me for that particular persons register which shows how often they've shot that year and with what guns. All our records are on my laptop so its a simple case of emailing an encrypted PDF file for that person. One for ones shouldnt be a problem at all because you're not expanding your collection.

Hi all,
Apparently after speaking with my club Sec he states they should be informed and this is his reply in email,- " however you do actually need to let me know if you are acquiring or changing rifles; this is in the club constitution and rules! You need to understand that you are allowed to hold these weapons because of your club membership and therefore we do need to be informed. We actually have the right to agree or disagree to the variation! Most of the time we are fairly relaxed about this and leave things to common sense, however the police always contact me, and it really does help if you let me know beforehand so that I can support your case.
So now I know

Hi all,
Might be handy if the the rules and regs should be given every year as a matter of course as I cant find them at the moment lol
i became a member many moons ago and they old grey matter isnt what it used to be, imsure there will be others in the same boat within the club or other clubs, members here might have to check their rules and regs lol.
cheers

Never seen that before seems like it a condition of your club rather than the police, I am prepared to be corrected on that though.

If it was me and I was able I'd change clubs to one with more sensible rules.

Hi all
I have to make an appointment next week regarding the 5 variations that I have put in under a year.
I am looking for any advice on what to say or not to say

A brief story for the 5 variations is

Some were sold to fund a Persian mauser sniper and Mosin Nagant finnish sniper that were not cheap, sold at least a smle, no4 and nagant to fund them , however as not to loose the authority for the 3 rifles sold the variation was put in either to keep the same calibre or I changed it to something else that I fancied.
Another variation was put in as I had a smle for blank firing at reenactment events, I gave renactment up so sold the rifle on but wished again to keep the authority but change it to Target shooting.
The final variation was to sell a No4 as I wanted to try another Schmidt rubin namely a K31as i alredy have a K11.

I agree that whilst its not the norm to have say 5 varitations a year(but who says it isnt) but I am sure as long as they are legally held and good excuse to have them, infact after every rifle sold I was notified by email by the Licensing dept in order to keep the authority i had to put a variation in within 7 days, so if anything was'nt the norm why ask me ??
I also agree as has been mentioned to the club sec that I could be dealing which I can see their point but we have to sell sometimes to get the rare rifle/s we seek, it was just unfortunate all were this year.

anyway thats a brief story, any pointers whether good or bad appreciated, also what would the worst case scenario be?, i could live with not having the last variation, but it would cost me money if i waited say 6 months or a year when its free at the moment.
I hope they just give ma a bit of advice although dont know what I have done wrong? hopefully thy wont take them all off me?
regards

You have posted your trials and tribulations with your licencing department before and all seems rather strange, sounds like you are living in the wrong place :bad:

It is fair to say I have never applied for 5 variations in a 12 month period however as you point out, the swapping in and out is to build the collection you want, to get the rifles you prefer to shoot and in that respect I cannot see why they should have a problem with what you are doing. I would talk to your FEO and if it all goes pear shaped get the NRA/BASC involved and see what they think.

Good luck with it Douglas and keep us posted please, you never know... another forum member may be in the same boat in the future.

Just saw your second reply, we have IainR and Mike2 on here representing both BASC and the NRA, hopefully one of them will pick this thread up in a bit.
