Sellier and Bellot 180 .303 ballistic Coefficient

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

Does anyone have the BC for the S&B .303 Britsih 180's or care to make a stab in the dark as to what the G1 would be?

According to http://forums.outdoorsdirectory.com/sho ... -BC-rating it has a "BC in the 0.496 to 0.50 range.."

Not sure of the BC but in my .303s no where near as good as Sierra 174 Match Kings or the Hornady 174 BTs

Seems optimistic but it is quite a lump at 180 grains.

I have a couple of hundred SMK's to load up next but wanted to get rid of the S&B factory stuff I have in the cabinet. Out of interest how do the Hornady compare to the SMK's?

The SMKs shoot the tightest, well able to hold the 'v' bull from 300 to 900 yds. The Hornadys are a bit looser out to 600 but as good as the SMKs over the hill. The S&bs are OK on the 'proper' historic targets with the huge bull(16 inches at 500/600yds and 7 inches at 200) but on the NRA targets, barely able to hold the Bull. I've tried various powders but gave up on them. I have not shot the S&B ammunition. Did not see the point. The Hornady's with the same powder load as the SMKs seem to shoot about 2 mins high and 2 mins to the right. I think this is because they have a much longer boat-tail.
