I've heard of Border, Tru-flite and Bartlein.

Shilen build fine actions. I didn't realise they also made barrels as a separate item.

Bartleins are quite popular at elite level (GB Palma team).

I set the record for Queens 2 in 2002 (150.28) with a 5 groove Border 30"x 1/13

I don't have any knowledge of Tru-Flite.

The Australia Team uses Tru Flite, this makes them popular over here.

Broughton also has a very good name. I have one of these barrels on order to try out.

I have a 32 inch 1/10 Truflite on my 308 Remington, it seems to perform well.

In the Open Class nearly everyone is shooting Bartlein barrels in some form of 7MM

Obviously F-TR is 308's but a more varied selection.

I would say t is more a preference question and the fad of the moment..

If the o,formation about GB Palma team using Bartleins is confirmed, I would remind they performed same earlier (at least in 1992 and 1995 to mu knwoledge) using Borders…..

Where is there a reason to make much difference between top manufacturers when:
-Every barrelmaker but one uses exactly the same ‘stainless” steel.
-Drilling and reamiing machines and processes same.
-Extremely limited choice of gun drills and reamers. One single manufacturer prevailing worldwide.
-Two only rifling processes.
-Tooling for both rifling processes of same scarce origin.
-All match-grade barrelmakes are highly skilled toolmakers and machinists have equal devotion, methods, means of control etc. Many have learned their skills working in other makers shops, and later creating their own business…

What is left to be different? Twist rates?, number of grooves?, shape of rifilng?,, bore/groove dimensions?, contours and eventually specific final treatments, the only one valid, IMHO, being stress-relieving.

Now, when one of the above final differences seem to be commercially successful, it is not long before the others copy it as well…..

Absolutely spot-on, Robert.

I believe that only Lothar Walther uses a different grade of steel than other manufacturers and hence the only concern is (frankly) quality control and (more the point, imho), who installs the barrel for you.
