Wheel weights are they still made out of lead ?

#1 Post by telshe49 »

l have just been given about 50lbs of wheel weights from a friend who knows l make my own bullets. On putting them in my electric furnace for the lst time l noticed that a couple where not melting and the rest were looking like shiny porridge , they certainly would not pour. l have not used wheel weights for some time due the fact l have lots of lead flashing etc. [no l have not been visiting our local churches at night]. :D . So is there anybody that can throw some light on this please.
Regards Telshe :good:

Yep, you need to sort the zinc ones out, even a few will turn your alloy into porridge.

Fortunately zinc melts at a higher temperature than lead alloys so just keep your melt at its slush point and skim off the Zn ones.
