Having only ever loaded 174 FMJBT ( ex Kranks) what options are there with the dreaded cast boolits ? How much can I tell the missus that I have saved ( always a source of brownie points :shifty: !) ?
Seriously though folks...... As the world is getting more expensive, any savings to allow more bangs would be welcome :lol:
Other than cost, would there be any advantages to using cast boolits in an SMLE? Or any disadvantages?
In the link above, it quotes a load for a .303 170-180 grn boolit giving 1500-1600 fps - the powder is Hercules, which I know nothing of...what would be the equivilent in Vhit N140? or other Vhit powder?
What are the velocity limitations with .303 cast boolits? (I think I understand the gas checked thing :-P )
Advantages - easier to get a boolit to suit your rifle than a condom off the shelf one, you are in charge of quality control so ultimately greater accuracy. Cheaper. Velocity limitations, none if you get good boolit fit and a not too hard, malleable alloy

I've loaded 100 rounds of .303 for the weekend, and I reckon it's cost me £25 (not including cases), and 5 hours of time. This has saved me over £40 - which will cover my club range fee on the Saturday, and my comp fees for the Trafalgar
