What would you do ?
Has any one ever changed from right to left handed shooting , or left to right ?
If you had to change on a permanent basis what would be the best way to do this ,
1 for the time being ambidextrous stocks .
2 left handed rifles
3 right handed action in left hand stock .
I have time to plan this out , trouble is I have invested time and money into several rifles with right handed stocks and I will need to shoot left handed so at least the stocks will have to go .
Ideas and thoughts appreciated .

Dave I have shot left handed at times when I need to take a odd shot. It is not to hard to do as long as you take your time. If I had to snap shoot something that would be a bit different
Re: What would you do ?
I'm right handed, right eye dominant but with an aneurysm in my right eye.
My back is knackered and the check out girl and surgery call me luvy.
Let me know what you come up with because I can't hit a feckin barn door with a football most days.

Not sure what's best, as I don't have any experience in this, but I think your going to have more options if you are resting the rifle - then easier to use a right hand action in a left hand stock.
Another option?...I'm sure I've seen attatchments for TR sights and scopes for sighting with your left eye (like a little sidways perascope)

As a right handed, right footed person, which is the most prevalent "body set up" in the Country, I had to change from shooting off the right shoulder onto my left, due to right eye problems. Every thing I do is right handed except shoot, so I may be able to assist you.
From your post, I assume you are into Rifle shooting, which posed little problem as a lefty for my self to be honest. If you are truly right handed, please pick up a true lefthanded left bolt rifle. With me it felt totaly alien as I could not get used to working the bolt with my left hand. The solution was either an ambidextrous stock, or if you can find one a left hand stock = but stick with the right hand bolt for both stocks, it proved far easier for me to us. It will not take you long to overcome shooting from the left shoulder, at least it did not with me.

Re: What would you do ?
I would give consideration, when shooting a right hand rifle from the left shoulder, to where the vent is situated. In the event of a case failure, rifles are built to allow the escape of gasses through a vent in the action, mostly to the right. You wouldn't want a gun venting into your face.
Left handed gun would be my reccommendation, or a periscope and carry on right handed as suggested.

Re: What would you do ?
When I joined the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) I thought of myself as right handed, although I would now describe myself a partially ambidextrous. I was an OK shot but never outstanding.
While on exercise I the broke the cocking handle on my Steyr and the only replacement was a left handed Steyr. After moving from right to left my shooting inproved as I found the my left eye was my master eye.
With my master eye being the left, the difficulty I find is shooting right handed. My right eye gets tired quite quickly and I have difficulty focusing on the target. This is more with iron sights, than with red dots or scopes. In fact, shooting with iron sights I really have to concentrate to get a good sight picture with my right eye because it doesn't always feel right. Sometimes, I also get confused with which eye I'm using and the sight picture, which doesn't help.
As you've got time, I would suggest seeing how shooting left handed feels and if it something you can adjust to. It really depends on why you have to change from right to left and much of leftie you are?

Re: What would you do ?
I tried shooting my Winchester left handed....once.....and it was a dangerous affair! Almost felt like someone else had control of the gun so wont be doing that again.
Re: What would you do ?
Dave,
I can completely identify with you on this one.
I'm left handed, but can shoot to a decent standard from either shoulder. Over the years, I've become accustomed to using right handed rifles, as most of collection are. I do own one left handed rifle, a Heym which I use for stalking, figuring that it would be best suited in case a rapid second shot was necessary. Without fail, I reach for the wrong side of the rifle when reloading!
For me at least, a confirmed one ball juggler, my brain cannot accept the bolt on the left hand side. This is purely because 95% of my shooting is with a right handed bolt, muscle memory and all that.
Now, as at least one person has pointed out, if you shoot a right handed rifle from the left shoulder and a case ruptures, I assure you it will get your attention :G Fortunately on the occasions this has happened to me I was wearing safety glasses
and I now wear them whenever and whatever I'm shooting.
I've finally persuaded myself to go down the route of slowly changing over to all left handers. The only exception will be my Mauser used in Military comps.
Although this will affect my bank balance, my logic says it will also stop me from exchanging guns so often, as there's a lot less to choose from
