Apparently the Home Office have just re-classified these as expanding due to the Hornady site saying that somewhere.
Just to let you know that the NRA are on the case already although we haven't received official notification yet - hence why it's here and not under NRA!

Re: Hornady Amax
So as a result of one unknown RFD on the D&C firearms discussion group making a comment, and D&C firearms department reclassifying them the HO has also reclassified them as expanding ammunition? What a nonsense, so it means I am now breaking the law as I have a box .224" Amax projectiles in the house.
Thanks for the heads up on this Heather.

So as Ovenpaa has said. One persons comment has made criminals of hundreds, probably thousands of people overnight. :?
Surely if this is to be the outcome the Home Office should contact every certificate holder personally.

I am a criminal I am breaking the law I have got shelves full of them. :cool2:
Re: Hornady Amax
I would leave them separate Rob because if the HO confirm this is indeed the case then it has a very different impact on Amax shooters.
Re: Hornady Amax
BASC has been on this for weeks.
I don't think the Home Office have re-classified them.
Where does the Hornady site say they were designed for hunting as opposed to target shooting?
Hornady refer to A-Max as Match bullets...not hunting bullets.

Re: Hornady Amax
Rob, this re-classification only happened in the last couple of days I believe although it has been on the go forbade months two.
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!
Re: Hornady Amax
Agreed Mike,
I have just been discussing this by email and my understanding is D&C raised the issue at a HO meeting Thursday and and the HO legal team were of the opinion they should be classified as S5 which means if you do not have a condition to hold expanding bullets you could well be breaking the law although this is untested at present.
The D&C move based on the opinion of a single RFD who sits on the consultative committee and has not been endorsed by other police forces.
Rob my understanding is if BASC were aware that D&C were to raise the issue at Thursdays meeting they chose not to ask for representation nor put a case forward.
I have also just read elsewhere that the importers are to appeal the decision.

Who the F is this RFD?!!!!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?
