Quote: Westech, not the NRA, set the prices for the shooting events (and everything else). To be fair to Westech, the cost of a shoot in a single lane in any of these events is about £3-£4 plus the cost of the ammo, plus on Century the cost of the marker or reactive target. Black Powder Pistol has a high staff-to-shot ratio (because there is a team in the background loading the cylinders). Westech, not the NRA, decided to sell shooting vouchers only in £5 units (thus setting the minimum price for anything at £5 and the next available increment at £10). Westech, not the NRA, dictated the range layout (in accordance with the commercial deals they had struck with the exhibitors ) other than as limited by range safety.

Two things - The general non shooting public do no know this is not NRA/NSC organised and it will be associated with NRA Bisley in their minds.

If the hire of the lane is £3 to £4 then is BP and ball/cap etc, or 357 rounds £1 each - I think I would change supplier?

With admission, registration and paying fo the privelege it could cost up to £40 for £6 rounds - I am sorry that can never be justified - Westech need to think again and NRA/NSA need to be more careful with whom they strike up business relations.

Said before the idea - briliant!
The open access to shooting - Brilliant!
Static Display - good!
Demo's - excellent!
BASC, CPSA, etc - excellent!

Sadly the charging regime was largely a rip off and if were to continue in that vein then I believe it will not as I undersand it make year three of the deal - which is genuinly a pity, the concept should be applauded.

I have been thinking exactly the same, it is cause for concern considering how the shooter's image is portrayed in the public's eye.

Iain
They were great!!

Lots of people shooting them - more on air and rifle but a few clays as well.

Having meeting with Brian and the company soon to try & work out how to use them here.

I saw on FB yesterday that the shooting Happy Hour (double the ammo) was extended to all day which was good for those there yesterday?
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

As one of the coaches/Rcos on the Full-bore Rifles (have a go), the general consensus was that the registration fee was far too high and £5 for five shots too high. Most of us were giving the punters a few extra shots for their Fiver and at the end of the day on sunday £5 would have got you 20 shots. Sent a lot of people up to Heather to get them to join the NRA. Weather was excellent.

We weren't really busy, (try before you buy) not by NRA open day standards, but we had a steady stream of people prepared to pay 5 quid for 5 shots. Most of them had never shot before. Many of them came back for another go. All were very pleasant, no one said anything rude to us all day - which considering this was the 'great british public' was somthing of a surprise.

On Sunday afternoon the price changed to 5 quid for 10 shots and we were much busier as a result. But the organisers will be making a loss on that....as even 7.62 surplus ammo is more than 40p a round, then there is the cost of targetry, butt crew, our time, insurance...and more I havent thought of.

Overall those we spoke to enjoyed the event, and I don't think they saw the NRA in a negative light at all, we even persuaded a few to join.

The entry price was certainly too high.

Rumour has it that a temporary official made some derogeratory comments on the main radio frequency and was sacked!

I was there in the range office. Had one telephone complaint from a member who hadn't responded to the offer of tickets; I offered to meet him at the gate to get him in and he told me that wasn't good enough!

You can please some etc., etc. :?

I thought four and a half quid was a bit steep for a pork roll, but that's show prices everywhere. The nice young man did ask me if I wanted stuffing so at least I pulled!

Anyway, I enjoyed it, just thnk, if I'd have gone to Blair Athol for the 'F' class league shoot I would have gotten soaked because it rained so much and gotten bitten to death like Andy Duffy. Still Andy, there's the old proverb: Every cloud is full of rain!

A special  to all NSC staff who worked so :squirrel: hard to get things ready, much of it at very short notice.

I did RO duty on the have a go lanes for all 3 days and I was kept pretty busy, especially on Sunday, but it depended on which rifle you had charge of. The Firebird targets were fun but not really appropriate for people wanting to see how well a gun could shoot.

Not sure if the weather did the show any favours, as many people would have headed for the beach instead.

I felt the entry prices were too high, but the shooting vouchers were fair - after all we gave each punter at least ten minutes on the point with some good quality coaching and advice. I didn't sample the food.

As an aside, I was very impressed by the CZ750. We put hundreds of rounds through it over 3 days, without any cleaning, and it was consistently hitting the Firebirds even in novice hands. Only downside was the awful bipod mount - if it wasn't tightened after every 5 shots it would fall out!

I was there all weekend, although I only paid on the Friday,

entry fee: £22 on the gate
shooting registration: £12.50 - mandatory even though I have my own insurance and FAC
shooting: £10 for 10 shots... which later doubled, and from what i gather doubled again on the last day... so once again the early bird gets penalised.

Had a mooch around the stores/stands and well, nothign took my fancy... was kinda hoping that someone like SGC or Bradley Arms might be there to have a go with an AR-15 and see if I really could get into the idea... as it turns out the closest that we could get was Desert Arms tactical bolt actions - I enver did get a go, but did have a go on a Savage arms tactical rifle which was nice.

My opinion was that really, the century range area there wasnt alot there, there were apparently 200 stands, and I guess if you were looking for something in particular it might be interesting, but everything was high priced and nothign like what I was after, so I couldnt help but feel it was money wasted :(

£1 per shot (well, £2.25 including the expensive registration fee) was OTT and not a very good way to get new shooters into the sport.

Overall it seemed aimed more towards experienced shooters rather than newbies. From what I understand the NRA Open Day is much better :(

I spent Saturday and Sunday down the butts playing guitar and chatting with the markers... it was more fun!
