Red dot

#1 Post by Stigg »

Hi, thinking of putting a red dot on my GSG 1911 LBP and was looking at the Bushnell RXS100 or the Vortex Defender CCW and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with either of them? Also would a 3 moa dot be fine for 25 yards target shooting? Cheers.

I don't have any first hand experience with either of those models but one of the best IPSC mini-rifle shooters in the country uses the Vortex defender as an off-set sight on his rifle.

Personally i'd say 3MOA is too small for handgun shooting, but thats coming from an IPSC/practical shooting standpoint. I used to have a 3MOA Burris Fastfire III on my GSG 1911 and it wasn't ideal. If you're doing static/precision shooting then it would probably be fine. If you're doing any kind of 'action' shooting most people go for 5-8MOA based on personal preferences.

Thanks for that, will mainly be shooting 25 yards standing at fixed target, might do a bit of turning targets but not much! The Bushnell is a 4MOA and the Vortex Defender is 3MOA but does do a 6MOA one as well?

If the gun isn't being drawn and you will have it aligned with the targets before they present themselves a smaller dot may actually be better. If the gun is being drawn/brought up from a low ready condition then a larger dot will be easier to find in a hurry.

Shield Mini Sight. They are made in the UK and have a lifetime warranty.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Oh and mine is an 8 MOA. Perfect on a GSG 1911.
