I've heard of loads of N140 from 39 to 41 grn all being used with success in SMLEs - I did try 38, but 39 was very accurate at 200 yrd. As I don't shoot the SMLE beyond 200 yrds, and like to shoot rapid sometimes, I'm trying to use a load that is 'kind' to my baby - but if an adjustment of head space doesn't solve the problem...then I will work the load up a little, as you suggest...
