Deer Stalking… reliable word of mouth recommendation from someone you know has undertaken such stalking being offered by a specific syndicate is best. Like other walks of life, stalking has its scammers. E.G., make sure there is deer, of the species sought, on the land being made available; that appropriate insurance is in place; that there is recourse for recompense if it all goes wrong. In addition, obtain and understand terms and conditions; consider the implications of allowing a syndicate leader to be a FAC mentor; make sure ‘coaches’ are suitably qualified; consider the quality of deer management, the construction & execution of a shooting plan and safety; determine if the land is over-shot.

If in doubt, contact BASC or similar.

Ideally more than one 'permissions' to shoot over land and , more significantly , some years of experience in holding an FAC with no 'issues' arising.

I am sure that this is not a legal definition but its how I got mine!

As has been mentioned its a postcode lottery. Some forces do it very easily, some you have to virtually submit a portfolio for, some just won't do it :bad:

Hopefully you'll be in a 'lucky' area

Mine has the words 'experienced' after it so may be a case of getting a restricted permission for a while and then asking for an open ticket.

Open ticket is for the 'experienced' & of coure depends on your issuing authority. Not all open tickets are 'open' some allow you to go onto land with lawful authority, which is passed for the caliber used. Other 'experienced' open ticket , provides the issuer with the authority to use selected firearms on land not passed or seen by the authority , but upto the licencee to use there experienced judgement & saftey skills. Its all in the wording, carefully does it ;)

When I applied for my very first FAC I was in my teens and I did it with a letter from our landlord advising I could shoot vermin on the 2000 acre estate we lived on. Can't remember if the estate was actually named on the ticket.
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!
