MOD Range Fees and targets.

#1 Post by Mike357 »

What does everybody pay per lane per day at MOD ranges? Do Landmarc charge what they want?

Also, do you get to use non standard targets like moving or ETR and are these operated by the club or Landmarc?
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

Mike..

I shoot with my club at Moodys Down, an MOD range run by Landmark. We shoot once a month on a Sunday. We are not allowed to start until 0915 and cease firing at 1200. The fee is £10 and has been for as long as I can remember. Given the short time, we have to be very efficient Target handling. marking, butt party change over etc. Fortunately we usually are. We occasionally get to shoot ETR (about twice a year)
Moodys Down firing points are 100/200/300/400/500 metres Then 600yards, this is due to the
fact that the A30 is just a few yards behind the firing point. The best thing about the range from my point of view is that it is five minutes from my home. I can see a range flag from a bedroom window.
And the Apre's shoot pint is taken in my local pub, two minutes from my front door.

Yes I think so too. :D :D

My Club. is very popular, in fact I think the membership list is currently closed to applications for membership . We also share an indoor range with a couple of other clubs in Winchester.

And of course Bisley is just half an hour or so up the M3.

Castlelaw Military Range in Edinburgh state you have to pay for two Range Wardens at double time, which is about £80 an hour.

Not sure what Garelochhead charge as the Club pays all our Range Fees.....But I think it is a bit less than Castlelaw.

Landmarc don't seem to have a standard fees Policy.

Last time I booked a Catterick Range, over a year ago, it was around the £400 a day mark for two lanes.
Costs vary depending on who else is shooting as that reduces the range wardens costs somewhat but you never know who is going to be there on the day. The ETR ranges are about the same and popular as there is no need for marking and you can get a lot of shooting in however the targetry it very suspect and is always a chew on to get working and then point of aim on the screen never is the same as the mark on the target, I ususlly bring stick-ins. Its a bugger paying £400 a day for something that doesn't work.

My clubs use Otmoor and Longmoor. I don't know the range fees offhand but can find out.

Both ranges have ETR - Longmoor has a dedicated field firing range with target coffins at 100, 200 and 300 yards and firing points going back to 600 yards. Otmoor is a converted 600 yard gallery range with ETR targets on the mantlet.

We run these ranges ourselves.

The two MoD ranges we use in Essex are Middlewick and Fingeringhoe (no laughing)

Middlewick is two or three gallery ranges from 1 - 600 metres, on that range civvies are not allowed figure-11 targets, so we have to use the big "Bisley-type" round targets.

Fingeringhoe has a few 100 metre gallery ranges or zero'ing, on this range civvies are allowed to use figure-11s, which is odd. Fingeringhow also has ETR from 1 - 300 metres.

Our fees are £13.00 per head.
