Frankford Arsenal Powder Trickler - best way to use it?

#1 Post by Skyline_UK »

This is a bit embarrassing as I've been reloading for decades. 😳
I just bought a Frankford Arsenal Powder Trickler as my Dillon 550 progressive press is getting on in age and no longer gives me the degree of accurate powder charge I want.
The trickler didn't come with any instructions. How do I use it exactly? Any hints and tips on how to do so?

Fill with powder, set over pan, turn knob.

Powder trickles into pan as you turn, stop turning when you get to the desired weight.

At the beginning it helps to "charge" the tube by pouring some powder through it, so that the powder is already there at the mouth of the tube when you start to turn the knob. Otherwise you can unscrew your wrists waiting for the powder to be turned through the length of the tube.

The rate of drop can be adjusted slightly by raising the edge under the tube or the edge opposite the tube, blu tack is good for this.

I think Skyline might be referring to one of the electrical things Dromia - I don't think there is a handbook for the standard manual trickler.
