Had this rare piece a number of years, but its time to go.
Scarce French Infantry rifle model 1822 forward lock converted to cartridge firer named the 1867 tabatiere. This has the rarer bronze receiver (Apparently from Church bells!) The more common rifles are 1842 conversions with a rear lock.
This started life as an 1822 flintlock musket, then converted to percussion, then converted to take a cartridge cartridge around 17.8mm to be used in the defence of Paris.
The bore is rifled and quite shiny, and has some areas/ rings of pitting.
Lock and action works as it should. No splits in the wood, which is all complete and nicely marked, with some expected scuffs.
Reluctant sale, not often come up for sale in the UK.
£1500

Re: French 1822 Tabatiere wih bronze reciever
I think the terms you were looking for are "side lock" and "back action lock"
Re: French 1822 Tabatiere wih bronze reciever
