Brown Bess
Anyone got a Brown Bess as I'm seriously thinking of getting one. Just looking for the pros and cons of ownership, it will be just for fun. As long as I can hit a barn door that will be fine. Got the A&K so the BP is just a shop away.

Re: Brown Bess
I used to have a modest collection of originals which I used to shoot.
They are gone now as I started selling of my collection of old firearms ten years ago and have only got few dozen left now and they are slowly going.
I think we only hold these things in trust for future generations so I stopped shooting original firearms at the same time.
As the regards the Bess I now shoot a Pedersoli which seems a mix of models but looks the part and can shoot it with gay abandon without worrying about damaging an original.

I don't want an original, repro is fine. As I say, it's more for fun and noise n smoke rather than a serious approach. I've seen the originals and way out of my league, although I fully appreciate the history and value.

Re: Brown Bess
Bought a Pedersoli 54 cal Mortimer off Dromia and it really is the most fun I have ever had when it comes to fun shooting.
Don't think you can't get some real accuracy from a flintlock, because after a few trials with bullet ( .530 ), patch thickness (10 thou ) and powder quantity ( 80grns ), I was able to get 5 inch groups at 50yds. If my eyes were a bit younger 'I'm sure I could improve on that.
Black hands and smoke up yer nose...........brilliant.

The visions of Dromia frolicking in a rainbow Tam O’Shanter…
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

What sort of velocity does a Brown Bess generate?
