Interesting stuff..
I see they are making the same mistake with 36cal / .410 - thay are not the same. That's a mistake Safir made big time and refused to rectify!!

How many times do you see that - and you then have to wonder if they are actually competent!Chuck wrote:

It is not even as though they are close ... .410" is 68 gauge/bore and 36 gauge is 0.507"

the TL;DR summation is that it is just the prolongation of the 4 step naming (12,16,20,24,28,32 - 36) where the sizes actually relate, to the only other cartridge still in common use. basically for neatness in a catalogue to not leave a huge jump.Dark Skies wrote:http://www.fourten.org.uk/36gauge.html

Interesting indeed ! What is the 'go to' box fed shotgun these days amongst the competitive crowd? Still the Bora 99?

The problem with the 36 cal /.410 thing in some guns is the FIRED length of the ejected casing. In some makes it is too long for the ejection port. This was an issue Safir had that despite a million emails they failed to rectify! In effect they chose a .36 cartidge that is common over here abnd bult a gun around it, someone decided it was a .410 by another name and they screwed their product up!
Although they made a .410 specifically for the US market complete with .410 magazines, they insisted on dual stammping their shotguns.
Some people still love to think that 36 and .410 are they same - they are not. I wrote on this to .410 magazine at the time to clarify the issue.
Badger, no idea on the answer to your question.

Turkey certainly seems to think so with the endless clones of it they're making!meles meles wrote:Interesting indeed ! What is the 'go to' box fed shotgun these days amongst the competitive crowd? Still the Bora 99?
Most people on the UKPSA comp circuit use either a Typhoon F12 (updated Bora 99) or Armsan RSS1 (Updated Saiga/Vepr12), or if you've got deeeeeep pockets a Dissendent Arms KL12 (updated RSS1)

The RS-S1 isn't an updated Vepr as such, they are made under license from Molot and is more a way of getting around the sanctions imposed on Molot.Whilst they are good the quality of finish, in my humble opinion isn't quite as good as an original Molot-produced Vepr-12.Blackstuff wrote:Turkey certainly seems to think so with the endless clones of it they're making!meles meles wrote:Interesting indeed ! The ones I've seen work a hell of a lot better than the originals so thats an update in my book!snayperskaya wrote:The RS-S1 isn't an updated Vepr as such, they are made under license from Molot and is more a way of getting around the sanctions imposed on Molot.Whilst they are good the quality of finish, in my humble opinion isn't quite as good as an original Molot-produced Vepr-12.Blackstuff wrote:Turkey certainly seems to think so with the endless clones of it they're making!meles meles wrote:Interesting indeed ! To be honest the Vepr-12's I've shot have working flawlessly, especially when running 3" shells
