Re: DK 2011
I was shooting the Phoenix F Class comp on Stickledown earlier this year when a herd of Deer walked across at around 100 yards from the Butts, the RCO did point out there were seven deer walking across however we counted more and did debate the legality of shooting the stragglers

They are having a right laugh in regards to that hare I saw, I was silly enough to tell them how big it was and of course every time it is being mentioned it gets bigger... :cool2:
Manager here has also stated that there is no need to block the area off when we are shooting, my hair is enough to warn people.

Don't listen to them...I'm sure I've read somewhere about the 'Giant Scandanavian wooly-hare'....christel wrote:They are having a right laugh in regards to that hare I saw, I was silly enough to tell them how big it was and of course every time it is being mentioned it gets bigger...

Re: DK 2011
The weather gods were with us for the most today, wind coming in behind the firing point but with the occasional side at 4 O Clock. Apart from a couple of shower it was ideal conditions, if you want to truly see what you rifle does at 600m this is the place as the wind is always friendly even when it blows.
This did mean the Viking was prepared to get her rifle out of the bag to shoot for groups after I had taken another 50 rounds off the life of my black thing.
Her second group gave thee shots that could be covered with one 16mm patch with two 'flyers' Fourth group gave a staggering 30mm for 5 shots which seems to have cheered her up. Not bad at 600m/656 yards. Of course being the one in the Butts I had taken the essential, cigs/lighter and a radio but no mobile or camera. Doh!
At just under 1 1/4" group I reckon that to be sub .20MOA
The afternoon was nice enough to take the 6,5-284 S&L out. My calculations based on 2950 fps with a 139 Scenars on a 200m zero gave 12.5ish MOA elevation for the 600m and I was on the frame nicely albeit slightly high, then odd things happened. I took one MOA out (6.5" ish) and dropped a bit but had to drop to 10.5MOA to be where I wanted to be.
Given that I know the distance is 600m and the round chronos at just over 2900fps and the 'scope is a new Kahles that *should* be right however as I took each shot and dropped a bit more on elevation the POI did not drop as I expected until about the 6th shot when at the 10.5MOA it had settled down. Letting the rifle cool off completely and then shooting again still gave a good POI at 10.5MOA so I am for the most rather confused.
Tomorrow I will confirm drops again at 600m and then take 2MOA off to see how that alters my POI, and repeat with another 2MOA.
What I will say is the barrel had been thoroughly scrubbed before hand and I do wonder if it needed a few shots to foul it. Tonight after 25 shots I cleaned it but only with oil and patches and without solvents as per Mr Schultz & Larsen's comments on Monday. It seems so wrong in my mind to not give it a good clean but as he built the thing I am prepared to give him the benefit of doubt.
Accuracy wise it was OK I reckon for what is basically a hunting rifle with a 12X 'scope The well prepared Viking took a snap. The rings are 25mm apart and the bottom shot was called but still counts. My view is around .50MOA but if someone has a copy of On-target and can confirm this I would be happy (It will not run on my Linux OS)

Women always have problems explaining how big something is but never how small it is!!!!  :lol:christel wrote:They are having a right laugh in regards to that hare I saw, I was silly enough to tell them how big it was and of course every time it is being mentioned it gets bigger... :cool2:

It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!
Re: DK 2011
This thread was supposed to be a range report however it does seem a bit disjointed.. anyway I wanted to conform zero for my 4(T) and get some range time in so I put 50 rounds through it today, and for the most kept it in or above the 8 ring at 300m (rested) which was good result given that it was S&B. I finished off with some hand loaded SMK's and kept it in the 9 ring with a couple of 10's. All I need to do now is sort out the eye relief issue.
Yes that is me wearing safety glasses, that is my new resolution, always to wear my safety specs..
